[ILUG] Cheap CD-R and CD-RW

[ILUG] Cheap CD-R and CD-RW

Hi all,
As there are now a lot more orders for business card CD-Rs than
we've actually got, I want to order some more. However, it's not cost
effective to just order the number we're short, so I'm going to order some
more to have a few spares, and I'm going to order some CD-Rs and CD-RWs for
my own use, so I'm figuring on bulking up the order. You can see the
company's entire range at store.yahoo.com/meritline but here are some sample
prices:

100 CD-R	$35.00
50 CD-RW	$40.00
100 CD sleeves	$10.00

Shipping UPS nearly doubles the cost - I think 400 CDs would cost about $120
to ship, making 400 CD-R + sleeves + shipping = $280 = IR£ 234 (IR£ 283 if
we get hit for VAT). That works out at 59p (71p) each for CD-R 108p (142p)
for CD-RW which I think is somewhat cheaper than they can be purchased in
Ireland. (I just looked at Peats web site - 90p each for their cheapest
CD-R, qty. 50. Their cheapest CD-RW is IR£ 6! though I suppose they'd give
you some discount if you bought 50)

Shipping USPS would be a little cheaper, but I suspect you're more likely to
get hit for VAT and this is the U.S. Post Office we're talking about - not
the fastest operators in the world.

These are bulk CDs - no jewel cases, no sleeves, hence separate pricing for
sleeves. I've no intention of becoming a CD-R importer - I just want to buy
enough to amortise the shipping costs for the extra business card CD-Rs, so
I'll just take orders as they come. When I've got enough that make sense for
me, I'm stopping. And I'll only accept orders for sensible quantities - say
20 CD-R or 10 CD-RW.
