I use SuSE too - AFAIK its default kernel doesn't include APM support,
without which you can't shutdown on power off. I compiled a new kernel with
APM support and now my machine powers off on CTRL-ALT-DEL with the default
inittab entry
ca::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -h -t 4 now
