Uhmm, I got it too when stopped the network and tryed to
fire-up it manually... thus looked in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup
(my system is RH, so on yours Debian it might be in
another script)
and found a discrepancy with "man route" (must be
because of the ip-aliasing feature):
route add -net 127.0.0.0 dev lo
It works OK
