[ILUG] Dell PERCs and Linux

Colm Buckley colm at tuatha.org

Folks -

Dell are telling me that the PowerEdge RAID controller (PERC2/SC and
PERC2/DC) are now working with Linux. The Linux source code (2.2.16)
indicates that these are badged AMI MegaRAID cards - does anyone know
for sure?

I believe that the MegaRAID cards have performance problems with RAID5;
anyone confirm/deny? I'd only really plan on using RAID1 anyway (or
possibly 1+0 if I can fit enough disks in). The alternative is,
obviously, the Mylex eXtremeRAID 2000, which looks like being the
fastest LVD RAID card around...

Final thoughtlets?

           Colm
