yep. they are lacking in the number crunching dept. from what i remember
off benchmarks posted to l-r, they don't get better than about 5-8MB/s in
RAID5.

why? imo RAID1 == performance deficit against 3 disk RAID5 for very little
gain in redundancy, and less disk space.. same for RAID1+0 vs RAID5+0.

very fast CPU. And Mylex are always a safe bet. (even ancient
DAC960PDU's get 10MB's in RAID5
