# echo "scsi add-single-device 0 0 <id> 0" > /proc/scsi/scsi

This tells the scsi layers to check for ID <id>.  The 4 numbers
are (in order)

   host adapter number
   channel number (for adapters with multiple SCSI busses)
   SCSI ID
   LUN (logical unit number - multi-unit stuff like CD jukeboxes)
