The story is that a.gtld-servers.net (one of the nameservers for COM)
is fubar'd. It's giving NXDOMAIN for all queries, it seems.
Through sheer bad luck your nameserver choose to resolve cardbase.com
on a.gtld-servers.net and it got an NXDOMAIN, which it cached.

The administrators of A.GTLD-SERVERS.NET should be shot.

james
