If you can spare a dedicated machine, use it. This way,
you can optimise the kernel for the task at hand, and
also strip the machine to the bare minimum, generally
reducing the risk of break-ins through faulty packages.
It also gives you a second line of defence, i.e. if someone
compromises the box, they're not automatically in your network.
