CPU-wise, DOS is only significantly faster than linux if you back-stab the
processor to make it jump into protected mode to run 32 bit applications.
As they teach you in CS, 32 bit applications will run significantly faster
than similar 16 bit applications.
As regards its filesystem, DOS is really quite pitiful.
