]btw, i've heard that one difference between c# and java is that c#
]can be compiled and java can't. (which will come as a bit of a surprise
]to the folks here: http://sourceware.cygnus.com/java/)
But java is compiled. What do you think 'javac' does? It's not compiled
into native code (at least not for any currently existing processor), but it
is compiled into Java Bytecode, which is an instruction set for a virtual
processor.
JVMs use JIT to 'compile' this bytecode into native instructions on the fly
in order to speed things up a bit.
It is thought that (maybe) the Crusoe chip could be used for such a chip,
and I believe Sun are also working on one (can someone in Sun confirm this?)
