All this talk of X and backing store reminds me - I was cleaning out and I
came across some of the O'Reilly "The Definitive Guides to the X Window
System" books. I have volumes 0 (X Protocol Reference Manual), 1 (Xlib
Programming Manual), 2 (Xlib Reference Manual) and 7 (XView Programming
Manual). These are NOT books for users - they are for low level X
programming, but I have seen the odd question asked here which they would
have helped answer. If anyone is interested in these, drop me a line.
