I'm trying to get a DeskJet 850 C to work under RedHat 6.1.
Emphasis on "trying".
Starting with no printcap file, I run printtool (as root).
Select local printer. Result:
autodetection: /dev/lp0 not detected
/dev/lp1 not detected
/dev/lp2 not detected
They do exist, though:
# cd /dev
# ls -al lp*
crw-rw---- 1 root daemon 6, 0 May 5 1998 lp0
crw-rw---- 1 root daemon 6, 1 May 5 1998 lp1
crw-rw---- 1 root daemon 6, 2 May 5 1998 lp2
I checked /var/log/messages and found
Mar 2 11:01:40 xxxxxxxxx lpd: lpd startup succeeded
Mar 2 11:01:40 xxxxxxxxx lpd[481]: lp: no line printer device or host name
Mar 2 11:05:21 xxxxxxxxx modprobe: can't locate module parport_lowlevel
Mar 2 11:05:21 xxxxxxxxx modprobe: can't locate module parport_lowlevel
Grepping through the kernel source, I find no indication that such a
module actually exists, and it certainly isn't under /lib/modules.
Any ideas?
RedHat 6.1, kernel 2.2.12-20, lpr 0.48-1.
