On the contrary, both the cable and the cable termination quality in
people's homes are extremely important. Many people have home-grown cable
strung all over the place, terminated in krone-style blocks with
screwdrivers instead of punch tools, or 50-yo cables with duff connections
everywhere. My experience has been that this sort of thing is responsible
for a significant proportion of cabling problems.
