The Quake Source has been GPL'ed. Someone was creating a project based on
the Quake Source and refused to release the source. John Carmack promised
to hire as many lawyers as needed to loan out to the GNU project to pursue
the case. A bunch of slashdotters also jumped on the offending
individual's website and killed it.
I have no idea how the case has been going since then (about 3 weeks ago)
but all the people involved are very serious about the GPL so I think it
will work out in favour of the FSF in the end.
