Set up mail.dom.net with its own IP.
Then set the MX for dom.net to mail.dom.net. This should work by
default. Then it is up to the Sendmail/MTA to decide what goes where.
There is a wildcard option as well which can be used.
MX 10 mail.dom.net.
MX 50 backupmx.dom.net.
