Just got back from a trip to Japan, where Linux appears to be doing very
well.A lot shops in Akihabra (Tokyo's amazing electronics shopping
district) carry Distros like the J version of Redhat 6.X and TurboLinux
plus a few local distros. And as for the hardware, one big chain has a
little sticker on every hardware product that shows whether it works with
Linux.Beos,various Win versions etc etc.
Plus those cool slim laptops, quite a few shops sell them with Linux as a
option, check out www.jpd.com if you'd like to see what the state of the
art in Japan is now.
I saw Apple G4's with big Lcd monitors running Linux PPC, also every
flavour of dual and single AMD/Intel chips, plus in the secondhand gear
shops you can still get Black Next Stations and Cubes. It was quite strange
to see SGI Iris and IBM Rs-6K's sitting on the path with second-hand for
sale tags on. I even came across an old Cisco 7000 sitting in the doorway
of one shop, quite bizarre.
