[ILUG] Which Disto.

Question from A newbe :)

I was suing Mandrake 7, but found my cd was corrupt so I got Open Linux 2.4
from PC Plus, Mandrake was also obtained from this mag. But Now that I've
had a look, my job involves s/w dev. under a Unix platform. I think I should
move on and Purchase a disto. My questions.

Is there any need for me to purchase a Disto, Or should I just download one.
( I was thinking along the lines of Mandrake Power Pack or Suse 6.4)
Will I notice much of a benefit from Parching a Disto. I have found good
support from the web.
Which Disto. should I go with?

Any insight / suggestions ?
