[ILUG] recompile problem

hey there

i was just recompiling my kernel (mandrake 7.0 kernel 2.2.14) and
i got an odd error.

it got as far as 
make bzImage

and told be there was and error
missing as86

anyone else had this problem?

ps the original problem is my sb64v is refusing to work.
the error is detected when i run sndconfig
some problem with the i/o range in isapnp.conf

any help in either case appreciated
