To go off on another tangent - have a look at
Basically 2600 tried to register verizonsucks.com only to find out that
Verizon (Bell Atlantic & GTE) had already registered it themselves.
They then registered verizonreallysucks.com and received a demand to
hand the domain over to the company.
So they registered
I'm sure that second level domains (.co.ie, .edu.ie, etc . . .) were
thoroughly discussed by IEDR, and I'm sure they thought they had a very
good reason not to go with them, but I think it is definitely is holding
back the registration of .ie domain names.
I know they were originally an administrative function of UCD and have
now been spun off into a separate company. Does anyone know whether
their brief includes just handling the registration of domain names or
whether it now includes making money ?
