I wanted my own domain also (fitzmaurice.ie). Can't register
surnames. So I registered a business name - Fitzmaurice Online.. costs 25
pounds. The IEDR will want to see the certificate of registration plus
proof of trade or intention to trade. For the trade part, a letter from a
bank manager or solicitor will suffice. Got a letter from the bank manager
for free.
What does my business do? Provides email addresses and web-hosting to
members of the Fitzmaurice Families. I have it hosted with another company
for 4 pounds a month. Any Fitzmaurice that wants an email address/website
then pays this fee. That's the extent of the trading it does. Already some
Fitzmaurices from other countries have requested accounts. If many more
join, I'll get my own server.
Hope this was of help.
