Well, there's been companies selling domains in "new" gTLD's for years, even
though ICANN (well, the DNSO) has only recently decided that they should be
added at all.

Going to happen, but not sure when...

http://www.dnso.org/dnso/notes/20000321.NCwgc-report.html

"Working Group C has reached rough consensus on two issues. The first is that
ICANN should add new gTLDs to the root. The second is that ICANN should begin
the deployment of new gTLDs with an initial rollout of six to ten new gTLDs,
followed by an evaluation period."

So the real kick is that the companies who have been selling the new domains are
now scrabbling to get their gTLD's added to the root, and, well, they can't all
get in there now can they? :)
