I can't remember offhand who was asking for the following code snippet for
scripting FTP sessions ...

ftp -vn >> $LOGFILE <<***
open   $SERVER
user   $USERNAME $PASSWORD
cd     $DEST_DIR
pwd
put    $FILENAME
quit
***
###########################

That is from a shell script on a Solaris box ... should also work on Linux
...
