i don't /think/ this is true for the majority of video chips. at least
not with XFree. the ATi Rage Mobility chips might have some extra
cleverness for handling a second display, but XFree doesn't support it.
(but Fn+F4 seems to handle it in hardware/bios on compaq + Rage mobility
anyway)
