John P. Looney's [jplooney-ilug at online.ie] 28 lines of dribble included:
<: This has to be the day for it;
<:
<:[root at hercules log]# mount /mnt/cdrom/
<:mount: /dev/cdrom has wrong major or minor number
<:[root at hercules log]# ls -l /dev/cdr
<:cdrom cdrw
<:[root at hercules log]# ls -lL /dev/cdrom
<:brw-rw---- 1 root disk 11, 1 May 5 1998 /dev/cdrom
<:[root at hercules log]# No it's poxy well not the wrong one!
<:Oh yes it is. And even if it was, I don't like your tone.
<:[root at hercules log]# init 0
<:init: Kernel doesn't want to go to sleep
<:[root at hercules log]# halt
<:halt: I'm sorry Dave, I can't let you do that.

Are you POSITIVE that's the right major and minor numbers for your cdrom ?
Major and minor numbers are in the kernel tree Documentation/devices.txt afaik
Cdrom on a debian box major number 11 and minor number of 0 just in case that
helps (/dev/scd0) ...
Regards.
Phil.
