tcpblast was an old favourite of Alan Judge as I recall.  I didn't think
it was still around though... one possible reason I can see, is that after
some DoS attacks a few years ago, people stopped running and started
filtering those low ports (echo, discard etc.).  So using tcpblast on the
public internet may not be as useful as it used to be.

A paper came out just there (see http://www.arstechnica.com/ ) which
discussed a new, more reliable way of measuring throughput, as well as
other things. However it requires firewall filters (ie. ipchains)
installed to do the measurement.
