Somebody already mentioned the magic words "Product Placement". This is what
decides what ends up in a movie - the producers of the movies either get the
goods free, or at a substantial discount, or get paid to use them, depending
on the movie and the use of the products.

James Cameron didn't necessarily know Linux existed when he did Titanic. The
digital FX work was done on contract by a specialist company, and Cameron
wouldn't have cared a lot about how they did it, just what they did, and how
fast. And BTW it wasn't a Beowulf cluster - just a shitload of Alphas, many
of which ran Linux, in a render farm running custom software.
