Nah. The fastest IDE interface that you could get on an Amiga was
2.8MB/sec, which I had on my 50Mhz A1200. The Dell P60's that DCU had at
the time were managing about 1.2MB/sec, and the 486's were lucky to get
1.0MB/sec - so 1.3 is quite good for a 486 machine.
The modem slowdown is most likely that when sync runs, every 30 seconds,
it's generating an interrupt for every 512 byte block it writes to disk,
and the modem misses a few interrupts.
That said, downloading 0.004 MB/sec shouldn't be a problem to a machine
that can write 1.35 MB/sec to disc...even if it's not doing DMA.
