it usually does. but in this case i'm going to have a huge amount of noise
to sift through.. :(

i suspect that the problem is that occasionally sendmail takes a long time
to fork. Any ways to pre-spawn sendmail processes? 

uhmm.. i'll try getting rid of confSEPARATE_PROC...
