Here I use proftpd http://www.proftpd.net/ - basically it claims to to be simple to configure, secure[0], as scales well with loads. Haven't had any real experience to counter these claims. YMMV.

[0] ftp, especially of the anonymous variety is a security nightmare, and best avoided if possible.
