I recently upgraded my system with a second processor, more memory and a Haupauge TV card. I compiled a new kernel for the two processors and the TV card, but my sound card uses interrupt 9 for MIDI, I think and the bttv driver reports on bootup that INT 9 is in use.
I realise this is probably a simple question, but which should/can I change? The ISA sound card has configuration setting available in the kernel, the PCI TV card doesn't. I'm not entirely clear on how to change these interrupt settings anyway. All the info I could find RE: the bttv driver claims that it can support multiple cards using interrupt switching, so why does it conflict with my sound card?
Does having everything compiled into the kernel cause any problems? I tried compiling sound as a module before, but couldn't get it to work, so I leave it in the kernel. It works for me. Since this is a Debian system, I can't use the RadHat sound configuration utility which has been so handy when installing Mandrake for my daughter and father.
I've also got an Oxygen GVX1 AGP video card, but as far as I can tell, it's only supported by Accelerated X, for $129.00 American. I must say that I got some great support from the guys at Accelerated X, but then there drivers are in RPM format as well! I know that alien 'should' convert from RPM to .deb, but RedHat is not as picky about sticking to the FHS as Debian, and when ever I have tried alien, the RPM has allways tried to install in the wrong directories, according to Debian. I think I will wait until I'm ready to completey re-install my system with Mandrake before trying to use the GVX1 board.
Thanks again for all the help in the past I know I owe a few people some blank CD's. I got a great deal on the in the states. You know who you are, so drop me a line and we can organise getting those back to you!
Cheers,
John Gay
