[ILUG] routing question

[ILUG] routing question

Hello !

I've got a curious problem. A friend of mine asked me to help him building
his network. He works at a very big school (the biggest secondary school
in Hungary at computing and related subjects) so they got 2 full C class
network. The problem is that they got a router which is unconfigurable and
only accept packets from the x.x.133.0 subnet. The other subnet is
x.x.108.0 . The mail server is regitreted at x.x.108.60 but the gateway is
therouter at x.x.133.58 . So I added an other interface to the card
ifconfig eth0:0 x.x.133.59 , the added routes :
route add -net x.x.133.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev eth0:0
route add -net x.x.108.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev eth0
route add default gw x.x.133.58
Turned the ip_forward on (echo 1) and tried to reach something. So I ssh
out to another host and bingo ! I started to be happy but when I wanted
to send an e-mail to the server the local mail server reported that
Connection timed out. And I didn't see the x.x.108.60 address. If I made
an ssh connection to the x.x.133.59 it worked, I could log in. But if I
initiate a connection to x.x.108.60 it refused the packets (didn't see the
host). The tracepath told me that the packets reached the other end of the
router x.x.27.118 but didn't after that I didn't see anything. I should
see the x.x.133.58, 59, x.x.108.60 but it didn't work. Could somebody tell
me why ? Thanks,
Ago
