This is what called SMTP AUTH. postfix-2001030 and sendmail (8.10.x or
greater) have these capabilities and qmail has patches to this. There's
another solution called pop-before-smtp. postfix has patch for it and can
use (sendmail too) the drac solution (drac.org, I think). Maybe qmail has
patch for it.
