It's also assuming that Fergal is using a Redhat box - if it's a SuSE one
then he'd want to change from going into run level 3 to going into run level
2.

Simplest way to fix this is to "linux 2" at the lilo prompt, start yast &
select
ascii login from inside the System Administration menu.
