Yep, its the ol kgcc buzz, but be careful to change ALL references to gcc to
kcc, there are usually two to change else you'll be back with failing
kernels...
I was just about to kill my machine - windows style - until I figured it
out..

Read .../linux/Documenentation/Changes and make sure you have a
version of binutils that meets the minimum requirements, as well as
the other software listed.
Also, install kgcc from the RH7 cd and in linux/Makefile change
CC=gcc
to
CC=kgcc
