[ILUG] modem problems

 Sorry, got it fixed. It was an external modem (US Robotics).
 The bios settings for the serial port were set to auto. I
 assumed that this would be good enough, but it appears that
 when linux boots the machine disables the serial port. I 
 manually set it to 'enable' and it works fine now :)
