[ILUG] NTL's Internet offering

[ILUG] NTL's Internet offering

Niall O Broin niall at magicgoeshere.com

I called NTL today to ask what they're offering. For £20 per month, you get
their basic cable TV package, unlimited Internet access and two telephone
lines, with "very competitive" call charges. I'm currently paying:

Item £ / month

Eircom line rental	13.20
NTL basic cable TV 9.20
ESAT SurfFree base	20.00
ESAT SurfFree charged ~10.00

That's going to save me £32.40 a month. With figures like that, will Eircom
ever deploy ADSL or will they jut give up in despair.

Of course, the jury's still out on the quality of any of NTL's services, so
that is of course a factor. NTL were just voted the best ISP in the UK, so
my helpful sales person told me, for whatever that's worth.

But there's one little fly in the ointment - service won't be available
where I live for at least 6 months. Has anyone on the list got this service
yet, and if so, how does the reality compare to the hype ?

Regards,

Niall
