I haven't tried to rip anything in a while, and today I fired up grip 2.94
to rip "All That You Can't Leave Behind" and I got "Query failed". I've been
using cddb (I know, I know, but it worked) and I imagine that the failure
has to do with the this new crap from CDDB with which players must comply.
So, I decide it's time to do the right thing, and I hie me to freedb.org.
Curiously there's no mention of grip there, but the generic instructions
should do viz. (and I quote)
Configure your CDDB-aware software to point to freedb.freedb.org (San Jose,
California, USA) as your cddb-server.
The master server and all of the mirrors are running cddbp at port 888 and
8880 and http at port 80.
The path for http-access is /~cddb/
Now, this is EXACTLY what I entered. Below the output from grep db ~/.grip
dbserver freedb.freedb.org
add_to_db 1
db_cgi /~cddb/
cddb_submit_email freedb-submit at freedb.org
dbserver2
db2_cgi
automatic_cddb 1
but I still do not succeed in querying. I did try the UK mirror first - I
only switched to the master when that didn't work. Does anyone have any idea
what I need to do to make this work ?
Oh - I'm using a modem dialup connection to SNL so I've no proxy set, nor
needed, I presume.

Niall
