[ILUG] Compaq Armada and Linux

[ILUG] Compaq Armada and Linux

Does the machine boot ok from hard disk ? Or (sorry to mention this) a
DOS floppy. It could be a problem with the floppy drive if the DOS disk
doesn't work either. The heads might be out of alignment, thats if
floppy drives can still have that problem, I haven't seen it for years.

As for the loadlin it's sole reason for being there is to start the
installation image. A quick look through the Mandrake 7.2 CD's shows
that it copies a cdrom image to a dir on your C:\ drive and uses loadlin
to boot it. This image will then run the linux install as if booted from
CD.

Though the whole floppy disk things is a little worrying for a laptop as
it's a hand thing to have if you've not network card. I take it you can
get to the BIOS settings without a floppy disk in the drive ?
