You need to create linux users aswell as smbusers.
e.g.: useradd alan
passwd alan
smbpasswd -a alan (and then it'll prompt for your passwd. Make sure
to enable synchronise with unix users in smb.conf, and enable the password
chat option aswell.
If you vi /etc/smbpasswd or /etc/samba/smbpasswd in RH7, you can see what
users exist, just like your passwd file for unix users.
The new version of samba which is still beta last time I checked, supports
domain logons for windowsNT and 2000. Kewl.
Hmmm, something to do tonight with that new hdd.
Note that you CAN still access from nt/2k clients even if you use domain
authentification with 2.0.7 or whatever version is current.
Later,

What do I need to modify to get a Win2k machine to talk to a Samba
based file share. I know it has something to do with encrypted
passwords, but do I need to change something on the Samba server end
or on the client accessing it ???
