So when I want to recompile my kernel, what version of the compiler shoudl I
be using, and where can I get it?

 It's a snapshot of the GCC-3.0prerelease CVS tree, with bugfixes. It's a
more recent version than was shipped with 7.0 - but it *will* fuck up when
compiling XFree4 and the Kernel.
