download the rpm's into some dir.  make sure the rh 6.1 cd is in the
system.  then do:

% pwd
/path/that/rpms/are/in
% mkdir manual
% mv kernel* manual
% rpm -Fvh *.rpm

i'd wait to do the kernel upgrade until you're local to the box.  if the
following step fail your box will *not* reboot properly.

% cd manual
% mkdir not.these
[move kernel rpms that don't apply to your install or your arch]
% rpm -Uvh kernel*
% ls /boot
[edit /etc/lilo.conf to reflect your /boot]
% lilo

this is how i upgraded all my home systems (while i was using them).
