[ILUG] ESAT rollout to begin soon on ADSL

>Usually get 44/45k reported, which is a lot better than it used to be
>(used to get 33k6 as often as not).

45/46k!!...Ah, those were the days.....These days I tend to get somewhere
from 30-38k. I even changed my modem 'cos I thought the modem was on the
fritz - nope!

The nice lady at Eircom checked my line and said it was fine (well she
would, wouldn't she!!)

Came across an ad in Internet Magazine the other day for ADSL in the UK.
They're advertising download bandwidth of 512k, 1M or 2M (depending on which
subscription you pick) and an upload of 256k for each option. They're
talking £50 a month and £150 setup.

Wonder how it will compare over here when (read IF!) it happens??

I saw something on the Irish Times Technology section about 3 weeks ago,
where Etain Doyle had given Eircom until the end of the month to get their
act together over the unbundling thingy. They seemed to be making all sorts
of excuses for not doing it, but it sounded like Doyle wasn't having any of
it. I can't remember exactly what it was about, but it sort of sounded like
things "might" be starting to move some bit.

Mike
