[ILUG] [OT] IE hostcount

[ILUG] [OT] IE hostcount

Hi all,

Apologies for the off topic post, but given the level of interest in DNS of list
members, I think the following might be of interest.

As part of the European host count operated by the RIPE NCC, HEAnet runs a
hostcount of the .ie domain. The host count project has been running since 1990,
and Ireland has been involved since 1991. In order to continue to show Ireland's
contribution to the hostcount, we need the co-operation of the Irish Internet
community.

At the end of each month, the system ie-collector.hostcount.ripe.net
(193.1.193.194) performs the host count for .ie. It is important for the
accuracy of the count that zone transfers be allowed to this system.

The information retrieved is collected by RIPE and is subject to their
acceptable use policy, available at
http://www.ripe.net/ripencc/pub-services/stats/hostcount/aup.html.

The information published is the number of hosts, duplicate hosts, and SOA
records per country, together with some breakdown by zone size and is available
at http://www.ripe.net/ripencc/pub-services/stats/hostcount/.

Your co-operation in facilitating the .ie hostcount is greatly appreciated. Feel
free to contact the HEAnet NOC (noc at heanet.ie, tel 01.6623412) if you have any
questions about this.

Regards,

Ann Harding
HEAnet.
