Hi,
I'm running SuSE 7.0 and I'm continuing to have problems with
NFS. I'm wondering if it's because it's running the kernel-
based nfs server - I can get nfs working on RH6.2 and Mandrake7.1
with no problems.
I'm trying to export my cdrom drive, so that students can install
software on networked machines I've made available for them.
My /etc/exports file is as follows:
/cdrom 193.1.31.*(ro)
/server 193.1.31.*(ro)
sharing, I would have thought, the /cdrom and /server directories.
I then restarted the kernel-based nfs server
/etc/rc.d/init.d/nfsserver restart
and for good measure, re-exported the exports file:
kexportfs -rv
which gives
/cdrom 193.1.31.*
/server 193.1.31.*
However, when I try to mount the cdrom as a client
mount engres3.ait.ie:/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
it fails with the message
"mount: engres3.ait.ie:/cdrom failed, reason given by server:
Permission denied"
As I said, I have no problems gettign this working using
the machines that are running Red Hat or Mandrake, but SuSE
(running on my machine) seems to be causing difficulty.
I have checked the NFS-HOWTO, but this doesn't deal with the
kernel-based nfs server. (Also checking the O'Reilly book
"Managing NFS and NIS")
Any suggestions (other than replace SuSE with RH)? Would it help
if I switched to the standalone nfs server?
Thanks in advance,
Cormac.
