A bit of advice please.

I can run Mutt and read my mail no problem. Composing and sending is
causing me grief.

I've read the man pages but to no avail. When I go to compose a fresh
e-mail I'm presented with first the 'to' field followed by the 'subject
field'. So far no problem. I then get presented with what I presume is a
text editor - vi? am I right? The first couple of key clicks do nothing
but then I can type away. I cannot however work out how to tell Mutt
that I've finished typing the message and want to send. I keep seeing
messages like 'this is not a vi command'.

All of the above may have an obvious solution but I can't work it out.
Any help much appreciated
