see www.linux.ie for a tutorial. alternatively use a different text
editor. use the EDITOR environment variable to change your default
editor.
do the following:
my.prompt$ echo $SHELL
if it's bash, ksh or sh do this:
my.prompt$ export EDITOR=joe
if it's tcsh or csh:
my.prompt$ setenv EDITOR joe
you can also add this to your shell rc file. .profile or .bashrc for
sh (or bash), or .cshrc or .tcshrc for csh (tcsh).
