[ILUG] mapping ESC to ALT in Vi

[ILUG] mapping ESC to ALT in Vi

Eoin Kelly e.p.kelly at student.ucc.ie

Hi all,
   subject line says it all. ESC is way in the corner on my keyboard so I've
tried the usual
:map <CTRL-V><ESC> <CTRL-V><ALT>
to no avail though I can map ESC to (for example) ALT+A using this.

\begin{shaky ground}
The vi manual seems to indicate that it is possible to input scancodes or
similar directly but not as far as I can gather in command mode.....and
anyway that didn't work when I tried it.
\end{shaky ground}

Help appreciated
-Eoin
