Just recompiled the 2.2.18pre21 kernel under Debian 2.2r2. had to be done as I needed sound.
All OK as far as sound is concerned but... I cannot get any Gnome app to work - basically calling any gnome app results in a complete freeze of X, and by that I mean switching off and on again is the only way to get the computer working again. Not a satisfactory state of affairs! I have at this stage removed all of gnome from my system (no bad thing some might say) but some of the apps I want, even if I don't want the window manager.
Anybody have any ideas as to what is causing this? I have re-compiled the kernel at least 4 times. The Debian base image worked fine and I am at a loss to imagine what I have got wrong in the compile when all other x apps work fine.
Any help appreciated.
