Granted, but Microsoft never charged for IE (IE 1.0 came with the original 
Win95 release, I've only see IE 2.0 once and that I think came from the 
Windows 95 Plus pack).    Realistically it was IE 3.0 that was the first 
decent Microsoft Browser, and part of the reason it was so popular was a) 
it was free (in the sense of beer) which Netscape 3.0 was not and b) it was 
at least as good as Netscape 3.0 and c) Microsoft's marketing department 
are evil.
