Conor,
Hmm, I have looked through a few different books and online things, all
of which had different mechanisms for rebuilding the kernel. I am
currently trying your one and will let you know what happens.
Meanwhile, I have managed to work out that what is happening is that the
initrd which is specified in my lilo.conf isn't being loaded, so we get
a kernel panic when no SCSI disks are available. However, the exact
same initrd works for the other kernels. Hmm.
I ran mk_initrd which indicates that a new initrd is being generated for
the two standard kernels (vmlinuz and vmlinuz.suse) but not for my two
new ones. Either way, when I try to use either of the two 'initrd's
they don't get used.
Further problem - I went to compile in the aic7xxx and DAC960 modules
into another kernel, only to find (or not find, really) that there was
no DAC960 or mylex or anything similar that I could build into the
kernel.
I have included the output from running mk_initrd and also the contents
of lilo.conf to see if anyone can spot anything glaring.
I did a make bzdisk which wrote a boot disk, but had exactly the same
problem - no SCSI modules or support in the kernel, so no boot.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
David
